Worship
At Shir Hadash we have a variety of services, each with their own style.
Our members love to sing, and our services include music reflecting a wide range
of composers and musical styles appropriate to each service.
Shabbat services are generally held on Friday evenings at 8:00 pm and on Saturday mornings at 10:30 am.
Once a month, we usually have a special Kabbalat Shabbat Service,
with an emphasis on music and a shorter format, at 7:00 pm.
Once a month, there is an early service at 6:30 pm that is
usually followed by dinner at the Temple.
We also have a monthly Family service at 7:15 pm, specially designed for families
with children between the ages of 3 and 13.
Tot Shabbat Services are held monthly
for families with very young children.
Occasional Havdalah Services are also scheduled.
From Fall through Spring, we also offer Torah Study on Saturday mornings
preceding the morning service, and an alternative Minyan Service
in parallel with the main service.
Our Temple Choir, under the direction of Cantor
Felder-Levy, sings at High Holy Day Services and for selected Friday
Services.
For more information, see
About Services.
High Holy Day Services are held off site to accommodate our growing membership.
Tickets for each family member are included in the membership. Students
and military tickets are free and seniors (over 65) are given a reduced
rate. Exchange privileges are extended to out-of-town guests who belong
to a UAHC-affiliated Temple. Tickets for non-members are available for
an additional charge. For more information, see our
High Holy Days page.
Religious School
Our Religious School is a cornerstone of our Temple life. We have classes
for ages Pre-K through 6th grade on Sunday mornings, 7th-10th grade on
Tuesday evenings, and also Hebrew classes on Tuesday or Thursday afternoon.
We encourage students to begin their religious training in Kindergarten
and to start Hebrew classes in the 3rd grade in preparation for B'nai Mitzvah
training later on. We have a family-oriented educational program so we have
numerous opportunities for parents to participate in the learning process
on Sunday mornings. For more information, see the
Religious School registration page.
Adult Education
As a Temple, our membership and our adult education programs reflect
the rich diversity of our community. We have a very active Adult Education
Program. We regularly hold classes in Hebrew, Introduction to Judaism, Torah
Study, Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation, and Life cycle and Holiday celebrations.
Throughout the year we also sponsor several lectures by visiting scholars.
For more information, see the
Adult Education page.
