For many of us, Shabbat is not very different from other
days of the week. We may attend services on Friday night or
Saturday morning, but the day often gets caught up in running
errands that cannot be done during the work week and
rushing from one activity to another. Occasionally we have
an opportunity to participate in a Shabbat retreat and
realize how special it can be to really take a day off.
On Saturday, February 2, congregants have the opportunity
to slow down and enjoy a relaxing Shabbat at Shir Hadash.
Come for all or part of the day. The schedule is:
- 9:30 am - Begin the morning with Torah study
- 10:30 am - Join us for the information Shir Shabbat service.
- 12:00 noon - Share a light lunch following the Shir Shabbat service.
- 1:00 - 3:00 pm - Join us for one of the two afternoon workshops
Meditation and the Amidah with Steve Zell
Practice mindful breathing and simple yoga postures to
find focus and concentration. Learn how you can relate
the prayers to your own life. Create your own meditation
practice integrating breathing and postures using Jewish
concepts and traditional prayers. Wear comfortable clothes.
Creating Personal Prayers from Traditional Texts with Rabbi Fleekop
- Study traditional texts that are in the form of acrostics.
- Create a personal prayer using the lines that relate to your name.
- Prepare a simple collage to take home illustrating your prayer.
The programs are free. Cost for lunch is $9 and should be ordered
in advance by contacting bryna@shirhadash.org or calling
358-1751 x5. Please RSVP for the lunch and let us know which
workshop you plan to attend by January 28 so we can be sure
to have sufficient food and supplies.
