Join Rabbi Aron and Lay Cantor Mark Allen for Shabbat Service to mark the 200th anniversary of Reform Judaism.
In 1810, Israel Jacobson, a Jewish businessman, built a beautiful temple in Seesen, Germany. It had an organ—a first, and he introduced other innovations that were to plant the seeds of religious reform. Jacobson’s religious innovations were egalitarian and based on concepts of the Haskalah, the Jewish Enlightenment, following such great leaders as Moses Mendelssohn. In 1815, Jacobson moved to Berlin, opening his own house for worship. Throughout his life, he worked ceaselessly to promote understanding between Jews and Christians until his death in 1828.
Learn more about the early Reformers and their legacy for our own time. Services will be held in the air conditioned sanctuary at Shir Hadash.
