Mitzvah Day

Date: Sunday, January 17, 2010
Time: 9:30 am

Tikkun Olam, or healing the world, is a way of expressing our partnership with God to make the world a better place.

On January 17, 2010 at 9:30 am, we will begin in the Sanctuary with brief words and songs of inspiration, then divide into groups for diverse service projects.

Volunteers can choose to * build raised garden beds for disadvantaged communities in San Jose, * clean up a beach, * plant seedlings, * create gifts for Jewish elders, * assemble birthday baskets for homeless children, * or to clean and sort pet items for the animal shelter.

We offer projects for all ages and abilities, for the outdoorsy, the artistic, and the compassionate. Bring gloves and trowels for the planting project, a small new toy for the birthday project, and/or towels, blankets, pet food and treats for the animal shelter project.

In addition, we'll be collecting slightly used running shoes for shoe4africa.org and new men's socks and new men's underwear for the local homeless shelter. All Religious School students are expected to participate--this counts as a regular Religious School session!
