Will the Real Sarah Please Stand Up?

Date: Wednesday, October 28, 2009
Time: 8:00 pm
Location: Shir Hadash

Reform Judaism believes that the Torah was written by four different primary authors. This session compares the main authors’ perspectives on women. Rabbi Goldstein will focus on the different authors’ outlooks on gender, and their portrayals of the matriarch Sarah. Which of the primary sources speaks most directly to us today? How do the several Sarahs reflect on women’s identity in our own age?

Co-sponsored with Shir Hadash Sisterhood.

Speaker: Rabbi Elizabeth Goldstein, Guest Scholar, Peninsula Temple Beth El, San Mateo
