Freilache Menschen Luncheon & Program with Rabbi Aron

Date: Thursday, July 12, 2012
Time: 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Location: Oneg Room

Join our seniors group for a light lunch and program by Rabbi Aron, "Jewish Quotas at Americas Best Universities: How they Started and Why They Ended."

In 1921 the percentage of Jewish students at Harvard was about 21%.
Why did that percentage plummet in the years between 1922-1945?
Why was the percentage of Jewish students at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons 47% in 1920 and only 6% in 1940?

Jewish quotas were a significant part of the Jewish experience in America in the period between World War I and World War II.

Perhaps your family was effected by quotas in some way.

Rabbi Aron will present a brief history of this period and involve the group in a discussion of the impact of these quotas on Jewish families and the implications for contemporary issues.

Please RSVP to Shanda Kaplowitz (408) 358 1751 x2.
