Youth Groups

Shir Hadash Youth Groups foster friendship amongst the congregation’s children and teenagers. Activities often include the celebration of Jewish rituals, such as havdallah, as well as the living of Jewish values through acts of tikkun olam.

Congregation Shir Hadash is the proud home of four youth groups, each targeted to the needs and interests of a different age group.

  • Club 3–4 welcomes all 3rd and 4th graders
  • Club 5–6 welcomes all 5th and 6th graders
  • Junior Youth Group (JYG) welcomes all 7th and 8th graders
  • SHAGY welcomes all 9th to 12th graders

Club 3–4

Club 3–4 meet several times during the school year for events planned by our parent volunteers. Activities are designed to foster friendships within the group and each activity includes as tikkun olam/social action component.

Recent activities include:

  • a trip to the “Jungle Island play center/laser tag,”
  • a hike at Castle Rock State Park
  • miniature golf
  • movie night at the synagogue
  • Skyhigh Jump

Club 5–6

This parent-run youth group offers temple youth the opportunity to interact socially and have fun while living their Jewish values. Club 5–6 organizes events 3–5 times each school year.

Recent activities include:

  • game day at Vasona park
  • outdoor ice skating at Winter Lodge
  • Swimming
  • miniature golf
  • bowling
  • laser tag
  • movie and a sleepover night at the temple

Junior Youth Group (JYG)

JYG holds several events during the year including social gatherings and community service projects. Under the guidance of our parent advisors, JYG’s middle school participants help plan events and are given other opportunities to develop leadership skills.

Recent activities include:

  • Bowling
  • Scavenger hunts
  • Ice skating
  • Laser-light show
  • Serving in a homeless shelter
  • Swim Party
