At the 2017 Consultation on Conscience, the Religious Action Center launched the Urgency of Now Initiative, a project that aims to mobilize Reform Jews across North America to organize their congregations and communities to stand in solidarity with the most vulnerable members of our society. The Urgency of Now Initiative, guided by our enduring Jewish values, will focus the power of the Reform Movement to build the world we want: one filled with wholeness, justice, and compassion.

The Urgency of Now Initiative is currently made up of three issue-based campaigns, run by clergy and lay leaders across North America. Each issue was chosen based on core relevance to the Movement and potential for tangible, measurable wins at the local, state and federal levels—allowing local communities and congregations to tailor each campaign to fit the needs of their respective contexts.

The three campaigns are: the National Immigrant Justice Campaign, focusing on protecting and defending the rights of undocumented immigrants facing deportation; the Protect Transgender Students Campaign, focusing on advocacy for the rights of transgender students in public schools; and the Criminal Justice Reform Campaign, working to combat racial disparities and mass incarceration in our criminal justicesystem.

This webinar will dive deeper into the focus of each campaign and the next steps that you and your congregation can take to get involved and begin effecting change
