18 Months to 2.5 Years Old Tots: Ducklings Class

Some of our Butterflies were lucky enough to start in our tots program, and others are joining us for the first time. Children may enroll in the Butterfly class starting at age 2 and stay through the school year. Development is so fast for at this age range, and our Butterfly Classroom allows children starting on or after age two more access to “big kid” preschool activities, like playing on the playscapes with some of the older classes without the overwhelm of the older classroom. Having time with their own age range let’s them work on the skills that are developmentally appropriate for right now, along with having time to be exposed to a variety of skill levels and experience on the playground. This can lead to modeling more advanced social and language skills, and challenging themselves to take (safe) risks.
Snacks are provided by the school in the morning at approximately 10:00 am and an additional snack is provided after nap. Parents send lunch each day. Children do not have to be toilet trained to begin preschool.
We follow a Reggio-inspired, play-based preschool program that honors the children’s interests and passions. Yes, two-year-olds have passions! Socialization is most important in our classrooms. Learning to get along with classmates and trusting teachers to care about you as much as your parents do is central to our mission.
