Sisterhood

About Sisterhood

Shir Hadash's Sisterhood is an organization of diverse women of varying ages and interests who come together to promote friendship, education, spiritual growth, and social activities. We are affiliated with the Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ). WRJ is the women’s affiliate of the Union for Reform Judaism, the central body of Reform Judaism in North America. Established in 1913, WRJ now represents more than 65,000 women in over 500 women’s groups in North America and around the world.

How You can Join

All women of Shir Hadash are invited to become members of Sisterhood! For more information, contact the office.

What We Do

Sisterhood plans a varied schedule of programs and events that range from religious to educational to social to advocacy. Sisterhood also runs the Shir Hadash Gift Shop. Our programs are open to all adults at Shir Hadash.

Serving the Community

When you join Sisterhood, your dues help support Shir Hadash as well as the larger Jewish community. We have been able to donate funds for camperships for children in our congregation so they can attend a Jewish summer camp. We have also donated money to the capital campaign and supported various other requests from the congregation. Sisterhood helps the larger community outside of Shir Hadash by supporting the WRJ YES Fund. The funds from the YES campaign support many programs here and around the world, including:

  • Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) - Youth Department (NFTY & KESHER)
  • Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC)
  • Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR)
  • Rabbinic and cantorial scholarship programs for North American students at the three American HUC-JIR campuses.
  • World Union for Progressive Judaism
  • Reform congregations in Israel & the Soviet Union
