About Membership

Joining a synagogue is an important decision. We invite you to take some time, kick the tires, and take us out for a spin. Please come to services, attend a lecture or enjoy a social event; we look forward to getting to know you and helping you find a meaningful place within our congregational family!

As a welcoming community center for Reform Jewish individuals and families we offer two membership types: General Membership is designed for individuals and families age 36 and older, and New Song Membership is designed to make membership more accessible for individuals and families age 35 and younger.  Learn more below, or download and fill out our Membership Form (PDF) and Annual Commitment Form (PDF) now.

General Membership (age 36+)

At Congregation Shir Hadash we ask each household to commit to an annual contribution. In order to distribute the responsibility for financial support among the members in an equitable manner, we use a "fair share" approach, asking each household to make an annual contribution of 1.65% of their annual income. When everyone does their part, we thrive, and with each family contributing their share we all play an equal part in supporting our vital programming.

To learn more about the fair share annual contribution program, please see Financial Obligations of Members.

All members are welcome regardless of their level of financial capability. Download and fill out our Membership Form (PDF) and Annual Commitment Form (PDF) today.

New Song Membership (age 35 and younger)

Congregation Shir Hadash is happy to offer our New Song Membership for single adults age 35 and younger and couples where both adults are age 35 and younger at the time of joining. We know how difficult it can be when you are beginning your career, so membership at Congregation Shir Hadash is easier during that time!

For all New Song members we ask for an initial commitment of $36 per person or $72 per couple, for the first year, and $180 annually ($360 per couple) after that. When you reach age 36, or for couples, when the oldest member reaches age 36, we will ask you to increase your annual contribution in accordance with our fair share giving model. At that time, you will also establish your pledge for the Major Repair and Replacement Fund.

New Song Membership is a full membership in the congregation including all life cycle events, Shir Hadash Early Childhood Center tuition discount, Kulanu Learning Program, participation in all of the Shir Hadash community activities, and High Holy Day tickets.

Download and fill out our Membership Form (PDF) and Annual Commitment Form (PDF) now and specify "New Song Membership" on your annual commitment form.
