Healthy Living Fair
Healthy Living Fair
About
Congregation Shir Hadash, in conjunction with many other community service, health care, and religious organizations, plans and runs the annual Healthy Living Fair. The fair provides essential medical, dental, and optical services to underserved and/or uninsured families.
2023 Healthy Living Fair
This year the Healthy Living Fair will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 8am to 4pm at the Sacred Heart Community Center in San Jose. We will be providing free medical, dental, vision, and hearing services to several hundred multi-ethnic underserved and uninsured families throughout our bay area.
Volunteers Needed!
- Medical Volunteers: Medical Doctors, Dentists, Nurses, Ophthalmologists, and Optometrists who are interested in working a shift for that day, please contact Kevin at kevinfell@hotmail.com so he can coordinate your donated medical-provider time during the health fair.
- Language Support and other Non-Medical Volunteers: Spanish-speakers, Vietnamese-speakers, Mandarin-speakers, and other languages are needed for translators and greeters during the event. In addition, general volunteer roles for set-up, take-down, and food services are also available.
Only a participant can capture the essence of this wonderfully diverse and worthy endeavor. The entire success of this program depends upon the generous volunteer support of our members, with over 200 individuals donating time and energy each year!
2019 Healthy Living Fair
In 2019, we provided the Healthy Living Fair services at St. Mary Parish in Gilroy. As with our past thirteen health fairs, in 2019 we provided needed healthcare services and educational information to hundreds of low-income, multi-ethnic, medically underserved people. We brought much-needed dental and vision services directly to the site through our generous providers and emphasizing prevention through screening, education, enhanced awareness, early detection, and health promotion.
Partner organizations donating volunteers and/or expertise to this past event included St. Mary Parish, Congregation Emeth, Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation, the Lions Club, the Vision Service Plan, OnSite Dental, Santa Clara County Dental Society, and Santa Clara County Optometric Society. We are grateful to Tabard Theater, Kaiser Medical Foundation, Anthem Foundation, Gilroy Rotary Club, Health Trust, UFCW Local 5, as well as Congregation Shir Hadash donors for their generous contributions to our 2019 event.
