Team Madrichim

Madrichim

One of the best aspects of our Kulanu Learning and Hebrew program is our madrichim, our teacher's assistants and program assistants.  These teens spend their Sunday mornings in our classrooms, assisting our teachers in executing lesson plans, helping with classroom management, and most importantly, serving as a role model to our younger students.

Madrich” (m), “Madrichah” (f), "Madrichim" (plural/neutral) means “guide”.  Our Madrichim program offers 7th-12th grade teens the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, increase self-confidence, express Jewish values, and learn practical teaching skills by assisting teachers in the classroom.

Hello from Rabbi Michael -

If you are new to being a Madrich(ah), no worries! Sign up now through our Madrichim Sign-Up FormAttendance for a Madrich(ah) at Kulanu sessions (see calendar PDF) is crucial - we depend on you! If you know you will miss a session or that attendance may be difficult at one point, please let us know ASAP by emailing kulanu@shirhadash.org.

The Madrichim program has a few key pathway options:

  • Classroom Madrichim supporting the K-6th grade classes, who work in our classrooms! Ideally in each classroom, we will have two madrichim - one of which is on the leadership path. This year, you will work more closely with your teachers, with the goal of learning some of the skills of teaching. Our hope is that as you develop those skills, you also develop relationships with the kids you are working with! By the end of the year, you will help to plan and lead a class.
  • Milestone Madrichim, who work with ALL grade levels with the Milestone Coordinator to help kids learn the new prayer/milestone part of our curriculum (Ritual Milestone descriptions). These madrichim will be moving in and out of classrooms, checking in with students to catch them up, and will learn a higher degree of fluency in each of the milestones.
  • Office Madrichim to deal with administrative duties and ensure the smooth running of the Kulanu program. If you are an office madrich(ah), you will work closely with the Kulanu administrator to ensure that the logistical details of our program (attendance, snack, parent coordination, etc) are all working in harmony.
  • Tefilah Madrichim who are prepared to step up and coordinate with the rabbis to make tefilah a better experience for all involved. If you want to learn more about Jewish prayer, feel comfortable stepping into leading services, and do so in a way that meets kids where they are at, this is for you. Guitar/vocal skills would be greatly appreciated. Help us do differently and make this a fun experience! The leadership path for this position will receive a higher stipend. (1 madrich and 2 Leadership Madrichim). We are trying to do things a bit differently this year, and we hope that at the end of your time here, you can point to skills you learned and put this work on your resume. Most importantly though, we want you to have a great time contributing to your community. Gratefully, -Rabbi Michael P.S. If you have any questions, feel free to email me!

B'shalom,
Rabbi Michael
