Check out the 7 Species Garden

Date: June 12, 2025
Author: Linda Allen

Have you checked out the 7 Species Garden recently?  Thanks to the Juniper Tree School which rents space from Shir Hadash, the Shir Hadash Preschool, the Shir Hadash Men’s Club and the on-going efforts of Rachel Wilson, AD Education, Carolyn Mock Rosen (a member of Los Gatos Presbyterian Church, across the street, who is assisting us), and others, the garden is being transformed. Take the path past the Memorial Garden to the side of the sanctuary and you will walk into a very special place.

The first thing you will see is our fig tree which provides abundant shade and later this year will provide abundant figs.  Then the pomegranate tree which is covered with brilliant red flowers  which are a favorite of hummingbirds and they love it!  You will see many beds of vegetables shared by the Juniper Tree School, Kulanu, and the preschool on the left.  On the right is our newly planted pollinator garden. Continuing around the pollinator garden, Himalayan blackberries are starting to fruit and the bushes are in full bloom.  In just a few minutes, we saw several kinds of bees on those plants:  honeybees, yellow-faced bumblebees, black bumblebees, sweat bees (about the size of an ant).  Looking for a place to spent some quiet time, appreciating nature?

Check out our garden. In addition to the birds and bees, you might even see a rabbit!
