Community Recap: Oct 27 - Nov 3, 2025
Date: Nov 3, 2025
Welcome to Shir Hadash's first-ever Community Recap, a wrap-up of exciting events that took place in our community over the last week. Keep reading to see updates from the Growing Together Task Force, Shir Hadash Women, and Men's Club.
Tuesday, October 28: Growing Together Task Force Teen Townhall
As part of the Growing Together Task Force process, we felt it was important to include the voices of our teen members as well. With the support of Rabbi Rafi and Rachel Wilson, task force members Leah Brunnings and Shelley Timmins facilitated a special session attended by 18 teens. The discussion proved to be both insightful and meaningful, as participants shared many thoughtful ideas about how they wish to engage with and contribute to the Shir Hadash community.
Wednesday, October 29: Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan
Women of Shir Hadash gathered to mark our movement into the quiet month of Cheshvan. We explored how it is a time of the "fertile void" when we incubate new seeds. We savored some verses from the rich parashot in Genesis that are read in Cheshvan and considered what women (like Sarai) may choose to take with them on a journey into the unknown. We also sang and moved and reflected together as we do at each gathering. We will meet again for both Rosh Chodesh and Havdala to usher in the month of miracles, the month of Kislev, on Saturday evening November 22.
Sunday, November 2: Men's Club Board Meeting
The Shir Hadash Men’s Club held its monthly Board meeting on Sunday. In addition to the regular financial and activity reports, the Board discussed a request for funds to support the Teen Tzedek America Civil Rights Journey in December (approved), our Shir Hadash baseball cap fundraiser (more on this to come) and our Membership Dinner on Nov. 5th. If you are interested in joining the Men’s Club and would like to attend the free dinner, contact Joel Zizmor (jzizmor@gmail.com) immediately. A highlight of the meeting was when the SALTY co-Presidents (Caileigh Pate and Camille Panish) and Treasurer (Alli Brunnings) arrived. They gave a short, but well received, presentation of what SALTY is doing and their plans for the upcoming year, as well as an "ask" for the Men's Club to support new furnishing for the teen lounge.
