ABOUT Erica
Erica is a vibrant and enthusiastic seventh grader with a passion for sports! She shines on the volleyball court as an outside hitter, thriving on the teamwork and communication that makes the game so much fun. When she's not spiking the ball, you'll find Erica swimming, hanging out with friends, or exploring coastal destinations with beautiful beaches—her favorite kind of adventure.
Erica's Torah portion, R'eih, is a powerful one, where God presents the Israelites with both a blessing and a curse, teaching that true blessings come from following God's laws. Inspired by this lesson, Erica's Bat Mitzvah Project is dedicated to supporting Lev La Lev, an incredible orphanage in Israel. This organization provides a loving home for girls aged 7 to 21 who have lost their parents or are in unstable home environments. Erica's commitment to helping these girls reflects her generous spirit and desire to make a positive impact in the world, and she has already raised over $500 dollars by dog-walking, fish-feeding, and plant watering in her neighborhood.
About Lulu
LuLu is a big hearted and tenacious middle schooler, now entering into 7th grade at Fisher Middle School. She is passionate about swimming and has been on swim team for several years at the JCC and adores volleyball, so much so that she was the assistant coach to the volleyball team at Fisher Middle School last year. LuLu is a world explorer and adventurer, whether on safari in South Africa or white water rafting in Canada, you can find LuLu looking for the greatest challenges.
LuLu's Torah portion, shared with Erica Borenstein, her cousin, is Parshat R'eih, which tells about how God asks Moses to teach the people of Israel a set of rules. If they follow these rules then God will bless them, and if they do not follow these rules God will curse them. Engrained in this Parshah is the theme of poverty which inspired LuLu's Bat Mitzvah project of helping the poverty stricken Ididima Primary School, which she and her family visited last summer in the remote Drakensburg Mountains of South Africa. LuLu's goal is to help these amazing students connect to the greater world by improving their school conditions and focusing on giving the opportunities that so many of us, here at home, take for granted. LuLu has taken the Safe Sitter babysitting program and choking courses and has opened up her babysitting business to raise funds for Ididima and its students.
