what a difference 40 years makes...jewish education with professor ari kelman

Jewish education is changing to keep up with a changing Jewish community. Learn about how Jewish education is no longer your parents' Sunday School experience and how it can reflect the ways today's millennial families do Judaism. Join Dr. Ari Kelman, a former teacher in our religious school program, in the discussion, "What We Talk About When We Talk About Jewish Education".

Kelman is interested in research at the intersection of Education and Jewish Studies, with an emphasis on the myriad ways in which people cultivate deep commitments. His research focuses on the ways that people learn religion across domains including schools, congregations, museums, camps, media, and online. He is the author of Shout to the Lord: Making Worship Music in Evangelical America (NYU 2018), and Station Identification: A Cultural History of Yiddish Radio (California, 2009). He is also the editor of Is Diss a System?: A Milt Gross Comic Reader (NYU 2010), and co-author of Sacred Strategies: Transforming Synagogues from Functional to Visionary (Alban Institute, 2011). He is also the author of a number of articles about contemporary Jewish identity and culture, among other things.
