Sunday, July 20, 2025 • 24 Tammuz 5785
10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Next DayGardenJoin us for a fun, community TWO-DAY Earth Oven Workshop where you'll learn how to build a beautiful, functional wood-fire oven from natural, sustainable materials.
- Building the Oven, Part 1: Sunday @ 10am to 3pm
- Building the Oven, Part 2: Monday @ 10am to 3pm
- Everyone is encouraged to come to BOTH sessions of this two-day workshop.
Hosted by Congregation Shir Hadash, on BOTH Sunday 7/20 and Monday 7/21, in collaboration with the Shir Hadash ECC Preschool and Juniper Tree Enrichment, this effort is lead by Brian "Ms. Bread" Baker - Founder, builder, and lead educator of the C.O.B. Project. Our congregational value of community is supported as a group oven build relies on planning, communication, and a team working towards a common goal. Help us create a beautiful and functional work of art that everyone can take ownership of.
Our oven will live in our community garden, adding yet another dimension by allowing for communal baking, social gatherings, fundraisers, and cooking classes. We are looking forward to many a wood-fired pizza, freshly baked challah, and the simple pleasures of food, fire, and friends
Made out of an natural mixture of clay rich soil, sand and organic fibers (a.k.a. cob); earth oven construction uses eco-friendly building materials that are easy to work with, which allows everyone in the community to be involved in the process. Often these workshops in which you learn to build your own oven cost $150 or more. While we are not charging for this event, we will gratefully accept donations in support of this project.
