Mitzvah Day!

DONATIONS NEEDED:
- Period Products: Pads, Tampons, Period Underwear - let's work together to end period poverty. Did you know that 1 in 5 women report missing work or school due to lack of access to affordable period supplies? Donations will be used to create Feminine Hygiene Kits on Mitzvah Day. Bring your donations day-of on January 14. If you need to drop off in advance, drop off items with staff in the admin lobby.
- Baby Clothes: new or gently used baby clothes for little ones aged newborn to 12 months old. These clothes will be donated to Loved Twice, a nonprofit that collects and distributes new and gently used clothes to newborns in need.
- Diapers: Donations of diapers are encouraged and will be used for the Welcome Baby Kits! Bring items on January 14!
- Sandwich Bread: Volunteers for the Loaves and Fishes Sandwich Kits project are asked to each bring 2 loaves of sandwich bread. Please bring bread on January 14!
Sunday, January 14: Schedule of the Day
- 9:30am, Morning Mitzvah Rally & T'Filah
- 10am to Noon, Offsite Mitzvah Project - sign up now! (go straight to park and skip the Morning Rally in order to arrive on time at 10am at Vasona Park - enter park for free (tell Kiosk you are volunteering) and go to Vasona YSI Building)
- 10am to Noon, Onsite Mitzvah Projects - sign up now!
- Noon to 2pm, Caring Caravan Deliveries - sign up now!
Onsite projects this year:
- Feminine Hygiene Kits (for all ages)
- Loaves and Fishes Sandwich Kits (for ages 12 and older, peanut butter will be used, not for those with a peanut allergy)
- Welcome Baby Kits (for all ages)
- Caring Cooking & Creating (for all ages)
Offsite projects this year:
- Caring Caravan Deliveries (for drivers with a vehicle only)
- Park Beautification at Vasona Park (for all ages): Park entrance fees will be waived for anyone volunteering on 1/14! Let the park entrance kiosk staff know that you are here for the volunteer event so that you are not accidentally charged. The meeting location is the Vasona YSI Building.
Please join this community-wide, congregational event. We will have several large events that enable us to engage in communal acts of gemilut chasadim (loving kindness), tikkun olam (repairing the world), and shomrei adamah (guarding the earth). Note: These are whole-family activities open to all members of the Shir Hadash community of all ages. Youth are NOT allowed to be dropped off because Kulanu supervision will not be provided, families stay with their youth and participate together in the mitzvah projects.
